SPRING SUMMER COLLECTION 2000

“IN THE PLACES OF MEMORY”

From the fishermen’s sea to the peasants’ fields, to the quarries, to the   mines, to the sulphur deposits described in many of Verga’s short stories, Marella Ferrera represents a woman who imagines travelling through thoughts in past memory places. Considering old rituals and future experiments, mysterious and surrealistic clothes in paper textile represent the memory of the past time.

Paper: soft and light, fragile, evanescent  material that has the full charm of the ephemeral, giving the pleasure of an object that wears out and showing the signs of time.

Abito in carta tessile con polvere di pietra lavica, di terracotta e zolfo.Rice paper together with cotton and paper textiles give life to transparent clothes naturally coloured and of the most lemon yellow shade, pink and orange.

Rich textiles mix with post-modern solutions, lace and linen with rope threads and copper leaves while sulphur, lava and clay powders blend into natural ambers, bronze and hornitos stones.

What has not lived and what has not been told is evoked by “string lace” and by “rope embroidery” on bustier enriched by shell fossils and prickly pear fibre and on full primitive looking skirts but at the same time very up-to-date, bringing back Verga’s enchantments and atmosphere of the Aci Trezza sea to the Cunziria in Vizzini.

Soft rounded sculptures indicate the waist and long flowing dresses give you a glimpse of floor length interlaced patterns while sophisticated hair styles underline the typical Mediterranean headgear used in Pantelleria.

These clothes are suitable for a continuously changing society, they give a message, and become stages of a historical period bringing back old time journey memories, in the century memory…
