LETTER TO THE  MUSEUM

1758-2008

A quarter of a millennium separated us…but now brings us together again.

A journey in time, a chant of sirens; I come to you by still unknown steps but I feel they are drenched with memories, with visions, with once known atmospheres… during that evoked time, beyond the time  where everything mingles, everything blends together to recreate itself… to recreate.

I find I am driven by the threads of memory which become signs and designs in an enchanting game.

History fragments, words by Goethe… 4th May 1787 “… on the back of a mule we reached the lava region not yet cooled by time… then we came nearer to the red mountain; I started climbing…”on Etna, vibrating soul, pulsing heart of the Mediterranean since its origins for the Eastern and Western countries, arbiter goddess between Demeter of the harvests and Hephaestus of fire, goddess and mother of  fertile ashes…

Nostalgia of the  female divinities, dreams of the East, a Mozart living on the Ottoman Empire borders…Turkish trousers, the Queen of Arabian Nights…pure gold bracers; unstructured armours, hunting scenes, male and female, solid and liquid, iron and muslin, goddess and warrior, gold and silver in the 18th century embroidery as old stories rewritten on bodies… bodies of women travelling in time searching for old lost mysteries, perhaps  found in the works of Goethe or in the notes of Mozart… during their voyage.
