“ETHNOMADS”

Ferrera presents the end of the millennium woman who lives through the centuries
taking with her traces of the past dominations, the signs of time, and the
layers of colour.
The woman is ethnic and a nomad, she is “ethnomad”; she claims her
peculiarities and affirms her identity; she is cultural characterized by a
never-ending dynamism, by a force of contamination, of a mixture and fusion of
elements of different origins in a wonderful synthesis.
Tribal atmospheres, ancestral customs, Arab, Norman, Swedish, Angevin
memories…and suggestions of a still mysterious future among old models and
multi-ethnic inspirations.Leather,
furs, feathers, hide and bark; primitive materials for an exciting pattern of
inlays where the sign gives way to colour.
We have natural shades, from white to sand colour to ivory to brown nuances:
then black, ruby red and spice green.
A deep will to understand how we are made and what we have inherited. A
hereditary sign that could be an embroidery, a colour, an overlap or a quartŕra,
hoping to put everything together to find a new conscience.
Loose, soft and wrapping lines for long ankle dresses.
Loom woven wool nets, degradč “webs” and new fantasies created with tulle
and mohair wool.
The “layer study” by Marella Ferrera brings to light the progressive
accumulation of the insular cultural aspects, she examines the exchanges, the
syncretism, the assimilations that took place in Sicily in a long range
prospective that from the world of myths without time comes to our days to
project into the third millennium .
In
the circular design of history the past is always near the future.
