“THE
ISLAND OF THE CYCLOPS”
Going back to myths and legends, Marella Ferrera turns to the land of the Odyssey Cyclops for her new collection.
“Night was falling, and the proud shepherd was returning from the fields with his shiny woolly sheep… “(Odyssey – Book IX).
A
Homeric atmosphere influences, in the loom woven net with coarse wool, the
loose, wrapping, white and black cabans.
Warm
mohair wool embroidered on head veils and again wool nets inlaid with pieces
of lava stones with a ceramic aspect for soft jackets and long modelling and
flowing dresses in Mediterranean black mixed to grey and white tonalities.
“He raised a bigger
rock, and twirling it in the air…he threw it.” (Odyssey – Book II).
Jewel-medallions in lava
stone and the resin flow with a pictorial effect on sculpture corsets
producing evocative light effects.
A mix of tradition and
technology, inedited fantasies and changing shades produced by the
superimposition of sophisticated materials for soft night cabans and for
double singlets in transparent chiffon laser “sculptured” with a double
face effect.
“During the day, she
wove her cloth and then undid it at night” (Odyssey – Book II).
At last Sicilian lace and embroidery designed with flowers and young plants producing an end of millennium neo-romanticism.
